Different Types of Headaches, Part 2 – When to Visit your Spring Hill Urgent Care Center About Your Migraine

In our previous article in our Headaches Series, we described and explained the three most common types of headaches: Tension headaches, Migraine headaches and Cluster headaches. In today’s article we will look into 3 other types of headache that we deal with at our Spring Hill Urgent Care Center. We will also explain the main causes for these different types of headaches, as well as help you determine whether it’s time to seek professional help at the doctor’s office.

1. Sinus Headaches

At Spring Hill Urgent Care Centre we deal with sinus headaches on a frequent basis, especially during the flu season. It usually involves constant pain and pressure in your cheekbones, forehead, or bridge of your nose and is typically caused by inflammation of the sinuses (small, air-filled cavities behind your cheekbones and forehead). The pain is accompanied by other sinus-related symptoms including watery eyes, fever, a swollen, runny nose, etc. Sinus headaches can sometimes be mistaken for tension headaches or migraines (and vice-versa) as the symptoms may seem similar. What differentiates a sinus headache from a migraine however, is the absence of nausea and vomiting as well as sensitivity to light and/or noise in case of the former.

2. Rebound Headaches

Ironically, a rebound headache occurs when you overuse painkillers and over-the-counter medications. It’s normal that whenever a headache strikes, we want quick relief, so we take an aspirin and hope for the best. Unfortunately, as shown in our articles, not all headaches can be cured with popular medications. When the pain doesn’t go away, we usually take another pill. And then another… And the overuse of these popular drugs is what causes a rebound headache. But how can we avoid this vicious circle? First of all you can try to relieve the pain with natural methods – drink your water, get some sleep, relax. If that doesn’t help, your best chance is to visit our Spring Hill Urgent Care Center where our doctors will determine what sort of headache you suffer from and prescribe the best possible treatment to put an end to your suffering.

3. Hormonal Headaches

Hormonal headaches are typical for women, especially during pregnancy, menopause or period, when the hormone levels fluctuate. The cause of a hormonal headache is a rapid drop in estrogen levels. Factors that may contribute to developing hormonal headaches include (but are not limited to) lack of sleep, diet rich in sugar, caffeine, alcohol and soy products, weather changes and stress. In terms of treatment, getting some rest and making sure that you stay hydrated throughout the day will help relieve the onerous symptoms. If the pain doesn’t go away, don’t hesitate to visit out Spring Hill Urgent Care Center. There’s no need for you to suffer – walk in anytime you want and get professional help you deserve.
